What is the impact of the standard in Finland
EN 16510 is a new European standard.
The standard will replace previous ones and combine all loose standards under a unified requirement list.
The goal of the standard is:
- Improving fireplace safety – Clear safety distances
- Improving product efficiency – Requirements for the combustion process, Ecodesign requirements now fall under the new standard.
- Standardization – CE marking, emission data and maintenance instructions must also be prerequisites for obtaining the standard
What is the impact of the standard in Finland
In Finland, the CE mark is market access requirement, so manufacturers and importers must transition to using the EN 16510 standard for new products at the latest by in September 2025.

Transition period
There is a transition period for the products. The product must comply with the new standard when it leaves the manufacturer, but products in stock manufactured before September 2025 may still be installed according to the old standard as long as those products remain in existence.
